Safety requirements in Germany for stand construction

Germany is the trade fair country of Europe. Besides being the largest trade fair country, Germany also has the most safety requirements when it comes to stand construction. As a stand builder, it is important to have these areas of focus, which is why we have listed some of them. Note: the requirements vary not only by country, but also by fair location. It is advisable to find out well in advance. This saves a lot of time and avoids surprises during the delivery of the exhibition stands on location.
Fire safety
The materials and the exhibition stand must comply with the Brandschutz Norm B1, which stands for schwer entflammbar (difficult to burn). It is therefore very important for stand builders to have a safety certificate.
If open fire is used, a fire extinguisher and fire blanket should of course be present at the exhibition stand.

Stability
With a height of three metres or more, you are often asked for a ‘Statik-prüfung’:, or static check. This means that your exhibition stand must meet certain stability requirements. To meet these, a calculation must be made by a qualified company before the fair starts.
Exhibition lighting
Lights fixed at higher heights should have a safety ring and safety cable to prevent the danger of falling.

Power tools
In Germany, tools may also be subject to inspection. Power tools must be inspected annually to comply with the NEN 3140 standard.
Clothing requirement
During construction, work shoes with steel toe caps are a standard requirement. In addition, a construction helmet is also indicated as a requirement in most cases.
